Hi,
I thinking of a career change and wanted some advice. I am interested in setting up a salon for laser hair removal etc. I would like to know what type of qualifications and training I would need to set up.
I have perused your web page which is very informative and noticed that you run a 16 week beauty therapy course. Would this be enough for me to set up and secondly how much are your charges for all the courses I would need to take.
I have no experience or qualifications in this area but I do have a degree in law which I am sure is of no use.
I live in Essex and would need to know at what location your courses are help.
Thank you for your time and patience and i look forward to your response.
Kind Regards
June
Reply Hi June
Thank you for your question. I understand you would like to set up a laser hair removal clinic.
Firstly you will need a full level 2 qualification. Once you have completed level 2 you will need to have a level 3 in electrolysis or electrical facials. Once you have theses qualifications then you will need core of knowledge training which is 1/2 day and manufacturer training on the machine.
By 2016 all laser therapist will need a level 4 in laser hair removal.
The level 2 course is 16 wks and electrolysis unit is 4 weeks and electric facial unit is 6 wks. Total weeks you are looking at is 26/30weeks.
The cost varies for the subjects but if you are interested in doing level 2/3 then we are more than happy to work out a price for you.
Lots of insurance companies are changing their criteria to insure therapist with laser. Below is an example of an email I received from a well known therapist treatment insurance company
Pr-requisites for this extension are as follows; full Level 3 therapist or full Level 2 therapist with the additional units of Facial Electrotherapy or Electrolysis and must have manufacturer training. We encourage any Laser/IPL (light therapy) practitioner to undertake the new Level IV Laser and IPL qualification although is is not a requirement for Insurance cover until 2016
So by 2016 anyone performing treatment will need a level 4 NVQ qualification unless you have a medical background such as a Doctors or Nurses qualification then the criteria is different.
I hope this helps
