Laser hair and tattoo removal qualification

by Kate Dyment
(Chester )

Hi There,

I am wanting to set up my own small part time business providing Laser hair and Tattoo removal. As it stands at the minute I do not have any qualifications to do so. Could you please advise me what course I would need to complete to provide this service. I would also like some information (if you have it) to leasing the laser machines and the varies companies that offer this ?

Sorry for all the questions :-)

Many Thanks
Kate Dyment

Reply Dear Kate

It is great news that you would like to do the level 4 laser course as laser is very popular and a great investment to go into.

I would best recommend for you to do a level 2 as this is the ground foundation of beauty and will benefit you greatly when completing the laser course. The level 2 will give you great understanding in anatomy and physiology which will help you with skin care and hair growth.

In regards to machines we do supply you with contact numbers from where you can purchase a machine out on lease.

In respect of tattoo removal training the best way of getting trained for this is when you buy the machine from the supplier training usually comes with it.

Kind Regards
Halima

It depends what course you would like to go for. Some of the age limits starting is from 14 years, others are 16 years, but the laser hair removal, you have to be 18 and over to do the laser courses.

How to Apply For IPL Laser Qualification Training

by joanne
(tamworth)

hello,
i have no experience in beauty but i would like to change jobs and ipl is something i would be interested in doing, what would i need to do ?

Reply Hi, Joanne

I understand you would like to change your career and start doing IPL. So if that's the path you would like to follow, I recommend that you start with the basic level 2 qualifications in beauty, and then work your way up to level 3, and eventually you can do your level 4, which covers all the laser, IPL, hair removal and skin rejuvenation treatments.

But once you have your level 3 you should be able to start doing IPL and training as well. But you do need to have the basic level 2 and level 3 in order to start doing any IPL treatments or open your own business.

Laser Hair Removal Certification Application Requirements

by Emma Starling
(Clacton-on-sea)

I was fully certified in Canada which is the equivalent to Level 3 beauty therapy. Am I still able to take the three day BMLA laser hair removal course?

Reply Hi Emma, I understand you have a full level 3 qualification in Canada, which is equivalent to the level 3 beauty therapy qualification in the UK.

If that is the case, you don't need to do any other courses and you can go on to the 3-day BMLA course, which will cover the core of knowledge and 2 days for theory and practical on the laser hair removal; we use the yag laser.

More details about the BMLA course can be found here

Thinking of doing the BMLA laser hair removal training course

by Sally
(Essex)

Hi, I have an NVQ level 2 in hairdressing and a City and Guilds Manicure qualification. I am interested in attending this course and starting up a business at home. Can you please advise if the 2 qualifications are sufficient or will I still need the NVQ level 2 & 3 in beauty to obtain insurance.

Reply Hi, Sally

It is great news that you are interested in laser as laser is very popular and a great investment to go into, working from home will mean being your own boss.

Unfortunately the BMLA course is only for Level 3 beauty therapist and some one with a medical profession. The BMLA is an in house qualification therefor it will only insure these professions.

My best advice for you would be to start with the Level 2 beauty as this is the ground foundation and you will have better understanding when carrying out laser treatments.

There is no requirements with our college to go ahead with the Level 4 laser but starting from level 2 and working your way up will allow you to become more knowledgeable in the beauty industry.

It is more beneficial if you hold a level 2 and 3 as this will allow you to carry out other popular treatments and bring more money to your business. At the moment BABTAC will insure you with just the level 4 laser but other Insurance companies will require you to hold a level 2 and some even want a level 3.

Can I Do Fast Track Laser From Hairdressing Background?

by ELIZABETH
(SCOTLAND)

HI I HAVE MY CITY AND GUILDS IN HAIRDRESSING WOULD THAT SUFFICE TO GET INSURANCE AFTER THE THREE DAY COURSE?

Reply Hi Elizabeth

I am afraid you will not obtain insurance if you just did the three day fast track laser course.
Hairdressing is totally different from beauty. So you would need to do your level 2 and a level 4 qualification in order to obtain insurance. The other option is, you can do your level 2, level 3 and a 3-day BMLA course. But you will need to start off with a level 2 basic qualification.

I have diploma in beauty therapy and want to do laser hair removal training course

I've read that you need a NVQ 2/3 in order to do the 3 day short laser course. I'm interested in doing this course but I have several diplomas in beauty rather than NVQ's would these be sufficient?
-IMA diploma in makeup application
-IMA diploma in fashion/photographic/media makeup
-IMA diploma in dressing hair
-Diploma in waxing
-Diploma in lash & brow treatments
-Diploma in body massage including mechanical & audio sonic massage

Reply Hi Grace

The 3-day short course has been reduced to 2 days now, because we cover the core of knowledge on half-day training on the first day, and then we just go straight into the theory of the laser.

You do need to have a NVQ level 2 and a NVQ level 3. I understand you've got a diploma in waxing, so I just need to know, is it a NVQ, or is it city & guilds or is it a recognised awarding body?

If it's one of those 1-day courses that you've done, like a CPD points, then they don't really count towards the level 2 or level 3.

Alternatively, you can still do the 2-day course, but I really doubt that you'd be able to obtain any insurance, because you do need to have a level 2 and a level 3 before you can obtain any insurance to do laser.
